Laurence Dahl

Obituary of Laurence Edward Dahl

Laurence E. Dahl, 79, son of Carl and Helen Dahl, passed away peacefully in the company of friends on Monday, October 23rd, 2023.

Larry Dahl was born in Greenbelt, MD but spent the better part of his youth in a rural section of Loudoun County, VA. Larry moved with his family to Satellite Beach, FL in the mid 60’s where he worked as a technician for Southern Bell and served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army Reserves. Larry had a passion for music and ultimately moved to Nashville, TN to work professionally as a studio and road musician. He was a talented steel guitarist and toured with major artists such as Tanya Tucker, Stella Parton, and Junior Samples. He also performed with Freddy Fender, Ferlin Huskey, Barbara Fairchild, Nat Stuckey, Ray Pillow and other national touring acts throughout the U.S. and Canada. He later settled in Geneva, FL where he performed at clubs, conventions, theater, and on local radio and television - and in doing so, opened for dozens of Nashville performers.

He was an accomplished welder and “maker” who enjoyed fabricating custom mechanisms for his guitars and other musical equipment. His inventiveness was evidenced by the elegant nature of his many custom creations. Larry was also very interested in U.S. history. He enjoyed reading biographies of famous American leaders and traveled to many historic sites to see where the action took place.

Larry is remembered by his friends as a considerate, thoughtful and gentle soul. He was preceded in death by his companion of 18 years Sarah Stewart. While we will miss him dearly, we take solace in the knowledge that he is reunited with the ones he loved. God Bless you Larry. You’ll play on in heaven and in our hearts.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 11:30am to 1:30pm at The Ammen Cremation and Funeral Care 1001 Hickory St., Melbourne, FL 32901. Burial will be at 2:00pm at Florida Memorial Gardens Cemetery 5950 U.S. 1, Rockledge, FL, 32955.
