Obituary of Lester Gene Cassel

Lester Gene Cassel went Home to Heaven on August 26th, 2023 at the age of 92.

He was born and raised in Goshen, Indiana where he built a life with his high-school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Janet Cassel (Cox).  Lester was industrious in his career as a tool and die maker and loved doing home projects. His largest project was building his first home in Goshen with the help of other family members.  He resided in Goshen for 56 years, raising his two daughters, before moving to Palm Bay, Florida.  Lester and Janet desired to be closer to their grown daughters who had moved to Sunshine State to attend college and start careers.

His wife, Janet Cassel (Cox) preceded him in death in October 2018.

Lester is survived by his daughters Brenda Sinclair (Gregory) of Indian Harbour Beach, and Michele Cassel of Palm Bay.  Other family members include two grandchildren, Erica Simpson (Joey) of Viera and Brittany Cunningham (Dillon) of Jacksonville. Lester also was blessed with three great-grandchildren; Jaxon Simpson, Kaylee, and Daniel Cunningham.

Both his parents, four brothers, and one sister, preceded him in death.

Lester was a loving and caring husband, father, and friend.  He had a unique gift of making every person feel special and worthwhile.  He was always able to see the good in people and valued being a kind person above any other quality.  Lester was never too busy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Lester had a long-time career in Tool & Dye, which spanned from 1955 through 1999.  His other endeavors included: Marine supply supervisor, Staff Sargent in Marines, Treasurer and Manager of a Credit Union, and partner in a few local businesses and restaurants. Lester loved to contribute to his community.  He was involved in:   Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, mentoring disadvantaged youth, serving in various roles at the Methodist church over the years, and computer club.

His other interests included: family get-togethers, reading, astronomy, woodworking, tennis, racquetball, swimming, golfing, nature walks, and canoeing.

Lester will be most remembered for his willingness to serve.  He always had a positive attitude and kind words, and a smile on his face!

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care 950 Malabar Road SE in Palm Bay with the Rev. Jeff Bennett officiating.
