Obituary of Phyllis D. Hundemer

Phyllis D. Hundemer passed peacefully with family at her side on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Phyllis began her life journey in Boston, Massachusetts, daughter to Phillip T. and Mildred (Ross) Doherty. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1950. She went on to serve proudly in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War as a radio operator.

She wore many hats working from home; ironing, selling Sarah Coventry Jewelry and Tupperware while her children were young. From there, she worked at the PAFB commissary in Cocoa Beach, Florida and went on to become a CNA and worked at Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge, FL, Brevard Homecare in Cocoa, FL and Baypines VA hospital in Tampa, FL, where she retired.

Phyllis was mother to Linda Miller of Cocoa, FL, Michael Hickey (Terry) of Port Richey, FL, Stephen Hickey (Amy) of Tampa, FL, and Kathleen Wheeler of Colorado Springs, CO and a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She was actively involved in her children’s’ lives & activities. Phyllis was a brownie and Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout and Boy Scout den mother and little league coach.

She was an active member of the catholic community, being a Sunday school teacher, volunteering & sang in the church choir. She always attended her grandchildren’s & great grandchildren’s school functions and graduations, as well as, being a member of the Martin Anderson Senior Center Choir.

She was a member of the VA Golden Olympics before and after retirement, where she traveled to different states and competed against other veterans. She won numerous gold and bronze medals. Her passions were sports and music.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Phillip & Mildred Doherty; sisters, Carolyn, Mildred and Lorraine; brother, William; and her beloved grandson, Stephen Anthony. She is now reunited with her Heavenly Father and family.

She will always be remembered as a trailblazer for women’s opportunities.

She will always be loved & cherished 

Rest in peace, your earthly journey has come full circle.
