Dr. Charles J. “Chuck” Thompson II

January 5, 1942- July 16, 2021

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint - Isaiah 40:31. On Friday, July 16, 2021, at about 11:00 PM Chuck Thompson passed from this world into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. Chuck was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 5, 1942. Although his childhood years were marked by stays in an orphanage and foster homes, he never allowed those moments to define him. He was raised by his foster parents the late Ersell and Anna Sutton of Fowlerville, Michigan. God later blessed him with a large family and an abundant life.

During his career, he was known by many names: Coach, Mr. T, Mr. Thompson, Pastor, and many others. He was a machinist, coach, history teacher, Winn-Dixie manager, youth pastor, pastor, and more recently a rescue mission chaplain. Most of all when you saw Chuck, you knew his main job in life was to serve the Lord and share the word of God with those around him. If you were privileged to know Chuck you know that he loved and collected Eagles, he loved to travel with his wife and especially loved visiting presidential monuments and libraries. He also loved watching westerns, particularly ones featuring John Wayne. Additionally, Chuck belonged to the Let’s Ryde Motorcycle group and was an avid rider of his Can-Am Spyder motorcycle in which he went on trips with his wife Chalice to places such as Chicago, Maine, the Smokies, the Ozarks, and to Spyders on the Bayou in Louisiana. Mr. Thompson was also a Deacon at Calvary Baptist in Melbourne, Florida.

He loved people and he loved his family dearly. But most of all, he loved the Lord. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible, and sharing what he learned with others. He became a Christian at the age of 33 when his younger sons were invited to a bus banquet at a church nearby. Little did he know that that night God would radically change his life and his heart. When he trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, God changed him from the inside out. Not long after, he went to Bible college and began serving in full-time Christian ministry. For 46 years, he lived for the Lord, leaving a legacy of love and faithfulness as a servant of Christ.

Chuck’s energy radiated when he was in a room. He would bring laughter and love to share with all. He was always there to selflessly help others. Chuck lived a full life, and we will once again see him walking the streets of gold in Heaven. Chuck was survived by his wife Chalice Thompson; his sons Dr. Charles Thompson III, Chris Thompson, Pastor Conrad Thompson (Stephanie), and Casey Thompson (Kristine). He also left behind eight grandchildren: Charity Kacprowski, Justin Thompson (Sarah), Caleb Thompson (Kelsey), Olivia Thompson, Chase Thompson, Claire Thompson, Isabel Thompson, and Calvin Thompson; three great-grandchildren: Grace Kacprowski, Lillian Thompson, and Joshua Thompson. Mr. Thompson also leaves behind five sisters: Shirley Kogelschatz, Mary Dochstader, Bette Warren, Sheryle White, and Ann Kiewiet. Also, Chuck leaves behind somebody very dear to his heart, his great-niece Nina Steinmeyer (Wayne) and their two sons, his great-great-nephews, Nevyn Meisner and Ryan Meisner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his late wife Annette “Ann” Thompson, his foster parents Ersell and Anna Sutton, and his sister Donna Thompson.

If Chuck could give you any advice it would be this: Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 - Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, July 27th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care, 1001 Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL 32901. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 28th at 11 AM at Lockhart Baptist Church, 7601 Edgewater Drive, Orlando, Florida, 32810. Services entrusted to Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care.
