Barbara Marie Moavero

Obituary of Barbara Marie Conte Moavero

Barbara Marie Conte Moavero was born January 27, 1936 and passed January 7, 2021 after a very brief illness. She was born and raised in Stamford, CT and was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 53.

After high school Barbara worked as a secretary for the Rinaldi Law Firm as well as for Bloomingdales Department Store as a retail clerk and model. Barbara was an au pair for a young family before being united in holy matrimony to the boy next door, Air Force Airmen Vincent Moavero.

Barbara and Vincent shared 56 years of joys and sorrows raising 4 children (one set of twins) and had the remarkable opportunity to travel the world as an Air Force family. The family spent time overseas in Tripoli, Libya and Spangdahlem, Germany as well as several states within the US, settling in Sunrise, FL after retiring from the USAF.

Barbara was a homemaker where she put the needs and wants of her husband and children first and foremost. She was a devoted room mom, Girl Scout leader, choir director, Wilton Cake Decorating Instructor and a member of the Air Force Wives Club. Barbara was the “hostess with the mostest” as she entertained family and friends with her delicious cooking and baking skills and her warm, comforting conversation. Her door was always open.

Once her children were in high school, Barbara took the position of house manager at the Sunrise Musical theatre managing staff and greeting celebrities. She had endless stories to tell of her time meeting superstars like Diana Ross, Yul Brynner, Tom Jones and Barry Manilow to name a few.

Barbara and Vincent loved to travel and completed their bucket list by having at least one meal in all 50 states. They visited 6 of the 7 continents and countries too numerous to count. They retired in Grant-Valkaria, FL and were active members of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Catholic School. They were regulars at their favorite restaurant, Yellow Dog Café and their children surprised them with a 50th anniversary dinner there.

Here grandchildren remember her as their Nana who spoiled them endlessly by always having their favorite meals when they came to visit. She enjoyed playing cards and board games with them but made them work for their win! Barbara took great pleasure in hosting family holiday meals and enjoyed having family and friends stay in her home. She loved to knit and all of her great grandchildren received hand made sweaters and blankets from their Nana Great. She was known as the cookie lady as she delivered her homemade treats to her doctors, bank staff and neighbors.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, John Conte and Rose Marie Corrente Conte, her beloved husband, Vincent Moavero, and her only son, David Vincent Moavero. She is survived by her daughters Melanie (Jim) Moavero Talkington, Dawn Moavero, Lori (Mark) Moavero Chomiak, 7 grandchildren: Karen (Steve) Talkington Wortham, Greg (Nicole) Talkington, Jon Moavero, Kevin Chomiak, Grant (Megan) Talkington, Adam Chomiak and Andy (Noella) Moavero, as well as great grandchildren Amie Talkington, Alex Talkington, Derek Moavero, David Moavero, Eli Talkington, Clara Wortham and baby Elyse Talkington due next month. She is also survived by her brother John (Kathy) Conte, her adored Corrente cousins and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved her dearly.
