Obituary of Lawrence John Schrader

Lawrence John Schrader passed away suddenly while performing an act of kindness on April 9, 2016. Lawrence was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on October 27, 1934. Larry travelled the world in his role as Vice President of Quality Assurance. While he called many cities and states home throughout the years, his heart always held a special place for his boyhood home in the Soo. He served in the Navy Reserves for 9 years before pursuing his distinguished career in quality assurance in 1961 until his retirement at age 75. He married his wife Carol on September 15, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan. Later in life, Larry followed the calling of God and became a non-denominational minister. The Right Reverend Schrader served his church, St. Luke+óGé¼Gäós, for many years. He continued to perform weddings, baptisms, funerals, and sermons until his death. He served his community through a wide network of service organizations: Lions Club of Sugar Island, The Elks Club of Florida, The Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan, The Moose Club, the VFW, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He is preceded in death by his first wife Marleen (Cutler) Schrader, his father and mother, Joseph (Marguerite) Schrader, his brother Joseph Schrader, and his loving wife of 53 years, Carol (Gillians) Schrader. He is survived by his companion Barbara, daughters Lisa (John) Hughes, Susan Lawrence, Karen (David) Meehan, and Jeannette Hopkins, nephew John (Donna) Schrader, niece Deb Schrader, his grandchildren Justin (Emily) Schrader, Alex Carr, Emily Cassens, Amanda (Derrick) Neville, Maria Hughes, Aaron Carr, Sam Hughes, Allison Carr, Andrea Carr, Steven McMaster, and Laura (Alex) Schrek, and great-grandchildren.A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, April 13th from 3-5pm at Lakewood Village Clubhouse 3171 Hansen Ave, Melbourne, Florida. The family will lay him to rest in his beloved Soo at St. Luke+óGé¼Gäós Community Church in July.
