Obituary of Patricia “Patty” S. Ray

Patricia “Patty” S. Ray, 62, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2017 surrounded by her family.  Born in New York, Patty moved to Melbourne with her family when she was still an infant.  Growing up in Melbourne, she attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, Melbourne High School, and what is now known as Eastern Florida State College. Over the years Patty enjoyed several occupations.  Her first job was a bank associate for First Federal of Brevard.  Later she went on to become a business owner, store manager, and jewelry store associate.  But her favorite “job” of all was being a mother and a grandmother.   Patty loved people and animals, and had a heart bigger than life.  She found great joy helping others in any way she could. She would frequently adopt injured animals and nurse them back to health. She fostered that same love of animals in her children and grandchildren. She was very talented and enjoyed arts and crafts including basket weaving, pottery, ceramics, sewing, painting, and jewelry making. A loving mother and grandmother, her family includes her father, Charles Stevens of Melbourne, FL; significant other Tom Kelly of Satellite Beach, FL; son, Matthew Ray and his wife Allison of Grant-Valkaria; daughter Kelly Clark and husband David of Palm City, FL; daughter Sarah Barbour and husband Brian of Orlando, FL; grandchildren Alyssa, Shane, Kaitlin, Lily, Sienna, and Devin. Her brother Gary Stevens and his wife Lynn Huy-Stevens of Palm Bay, FL, sister Diane Smith and her husband Scott of Jacksonville Beach, FL, brother Greg Stevens and his wife Carol of Wichita Falls, TX. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Patricia Stevens in 2014. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church on Thursday,  October 12th at 10am.
