Obituary of Laura Jewell Browne Lee

Laura Jewell Browne Lee was born August 27, 1929 at noon in Melbourne, Florida to Clayton and Elizabeth Browne. She grew up with one older brother, Richard on the family farm in Fellsmere, Florida. After high school graduation, Laura attended Towson State Teachers College in Towson, Maryland. She then attended Massey Business College in Jacksonville, FL. She met her husband and married in 1949. They had three children and eventually the family settled in Melbourne in 1960. Laura wrote a weekly column for the Melbourne Times, was a member of the Native Plant Society and had a den of 16 Cub Scouts which met at her house weekly. Her family includes her daughter Patsy (Gary) Whitmire; sons Henry (Becky) Lee and Tommy (Terry) Lee; ten grandchildren and 16 great Grandchildren. She loved helping other and most especially, spending time with her grandchildren. Laura also worked at Pan Am World Services at Patrick AFB, and Johnson Controls at Cape Canaveral. She retired at 65 after having worked for 32 years and went on to work demonstrating new food products until October of 2012. She enjoyed traveling, adventures, genealogy. She volunteered at the Brevard Zoo during construction and for many years. She also volunteered for The Children’s Hunger Project, canvassing businesses for donations to full backpacks for school children each week, as well as packing them. Laura served as an ordinance worker in the Orlando, Florida Temple for five years and continued to teach the children’s classes in primary. She was a visiting teacher and an original member of her church single ladies group GÇ£The Merry WidowsGÇ¥. She was a poll worker, having served for 42 years. Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL (321) 724-2222.Laura’s funeral will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1145 Creel Street, Melbourne, Florida. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Fellsmere, FL.
