Obituary of Basil Charles Lewis

Basil Charles Lewis Jr, resident of Melbourne, Fla. entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 12, 2017.  Born on July 5, 1923 in Wilkinsburg, PA, he was the son of Basil C Lewis Sr. and Emma Kirschman Lewis.  He was predeceased by his twin brother, Robert B Lewis.  He is survived by his partner of 30 years, Mary Tyler of Melbourne, FL, and his sister, Edith Duff of Frederick, MD.  He is also survived by his children, David Lewis (Linda) of Richmond, VA, Susan Colten of Wilmette, IL, Daniel Lewis (Monica) of Hopewell Junction, NY, Amy Neumeier (Gene) of Greenbrier, AR, Stephanie Pain of Frederick, MD and  Pamela Clark of Alexandria, VA.  Basil had ten grandchildren. Bas grew up in Braddock Heights and graduated from Frederick (MD) High School in 1940, trained as airplane mechanic and pilot in Pittsburgh, PA and Douglas, GA, was on active duty in the US Army Air Corp, 1943-1947, and graduated as a mechanical engineer from University of Maryland in 1951.  He worked for Atlantic Refining Company, Philadelphia, PA and Bell Telephone Laboratory, Reading, PA, where he retired in 1986.   In addition, Basil maintained US Air Force Reserve status, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1983.   His interests included sailing the Wheedle Me, playing gin rummy all night with his twin brother, and fixing anything that was broken. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
