Obituary of Arthur Fetskos

Arthur Fetskos died at home on December 13, 2016. Art was born in Albany, NY on April 15, 1923; his parents Costas and Rose Fetskos were a Greek couple who had emigrated from Turkey. He spent his life in service to his country and countrymen. In WWII he was a gunner in the Army Air Corps in Europe. After the war, during his time as a reservist, he met and married the love of his life, Helen Leach on Christmas 1948 in Syracuse NY. Recalled to the Air Force for the Korean conflict, he then reenlisted, and retrained becoming an Inflight Refueling Operator in SAC. He was stationed in Bermuda during the Cuban missile crisis and later flew missions during the Vietnam War. Art retired in 1975 as a SMSgt after 28 years of active service. Helen and Art moved to Florida where he began his “volunteer career”, working for the American Heart Association, a local TV station and at Patrick AFB as the Deputy Director in the Retirees Activities Office (RAO). Art was honored for his 10K volunteer hours at Patrick AFB in 2014 and continued his work there. Art was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sue Collis and beloved wife Helen. He will be missed by his daughter, Connie and her husband Michael Scalf, his granddaughter Melissa all who live in Oregon, his son Mark who resides in Merritt Island, nieces, nephews and all with whom he worked. We will miss Art’s melodious whistling of his favorite tunes, his “Greek hospitality” treating family and friends to delicious dinners and gatherings, and his gentleman’s manners. We love you. Art truly represented the Greatest Generation, and will be honored at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on February 10, 2017 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Art’s honor to Space Coast Honor Flight or the American Heart Association.
