Obituary of Cary L. Salter

Cary Lee Salter, 66, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Florida Hospital in Orlando.+é-á Born in the Bronx, New York, he lived most of his life in Central Brevard County.+é-á Cary graduated from Cocoa High School in 1967.+é-á In 1968, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps serving as a combat correspondent in Vietnam.+é-á He is also a graduate of Brevard Community College. As a Veterans+óGé¼Gäó Service Officer, Cary served the veterans of Brevard County for more than 30 years.+é-á He was also a musician, photographer, and naturalist.+é-á He was a lifetime member of the Merritt Island Wildlife Association and volunteered 6,700 hours at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.+é-á During that time, he was integral in establishing and implementing the environmental and interpretive programming at the refuge.+é-á He helped build the refuge+óGé¼Gäós visitor service program and also worked with the refuge fire staff, photographing and documenting prescribed fires. Cary is survived by his wife Betty of Titusville, FL; daughter Kasey Yulfo and her husband Marcus of Knightdale, NC; son Howard Salter and his wife Becky of Longwood, FL; and grandchildren Martin Salter, Madison Salter, Elizabeth Yulfo, Joel Yulfo, Emily Salter, Kimberly Salter, and Elena Yulfo.+é-á He is also survived by his sister Joyce Johnson and her husband Jim of Nokomis, FL; his sister Linda Mink and her husband Bob of Titusville, FL; his sister Jane Mayo and her husband Timmy of White Plains, GA; and many nieces and nephews. Cary did not want us to mourn his passing but to celebrate his living.+é-á With that in mind, there will not be a funeral service.+é-á Instead, the family will have a Celebration of Life for those that wish to pay their respects +óGé¼GÇ£ details to be announced.+é-á Please sign this guestbook to leave your good memories and tributes to share with his family.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Cary+óGé¼Gäós memory to the Merritt Island Wildlife Association, P.O.
