Obituary of Donald Alfred Paulsen

Donald Alfred Paulsen, beloved husband of Rose Marie (Gleason) Paulsen who survives him, passed into the presence of Jesus Christ on February 21, 2017, at the age of 84 years. He was born in Iowa to Alfred Paulsen and Leona Paulsen and spent his childhood through high school years there. After graduating high school, he joined the Army and served at the Pentagon as the War Room’s Chief Programmer. He retired 20 years later with honors. While in the Army, he met his future bride, Rose Marie Gleason, in Greensboro, North Carolina, fell in love with her, and married her on October 2, 1954.  Their love flourished, and they started their family. Their firstborn daughter, La Peri Paulsen, and second born daughter, Cali Leona Paulsen were born to Don and Marie in Orleans, France, where the Army had stationed Don. Their thirdborn daughter, Doni Marie Paulsen was born in Illinois.  Don and Marie raised their daughters in Greensboro, NC where he worked for the City of Greensboro, overseeing the city’s computer programming department. Don is survived by his wife and three daughters, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one sister, *Joyce*. Don was kind and a true gentle man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. He enjoyed intellectual stimulation. He loved to read and believed knowledge was power. He was always ready to discuss politics and world issues over a couple dozen raw oysters at his favorite restaurant Ozzie’s Crab house. Don and Marie retired to Palm Bay, Florida and entertained family and friends whenever they came to visit. He will be missed greatly but will continue to live on in our hearts forever. A private memorial service will be held for family members In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name
