Obituary of Winifred M. Pike

Satellite Beach – Winifred Mary Gawley Pike, 94, passed away at home on January 7, 2018. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 7, 1923. Winnie was the daughter of Bernard Patrick Gawley, who was born in Co. Down, Ireland and Mary (McSherry) Gawley, who was born in Co. Leitrim, Ireland. In 1929, the Gawley family moved from Brooklyn to North Bellmore, LI. Winnie was a 1941 Mepham High School graduate, where she met her future husband, Larry Pike. Following graduation, Winnie attended Berkeley School in NYC, after which she worked as a secretary for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Winnie and Larry were married on October 31, 1943. They resided in North Bellmore until the family relocated to Satellite Beach in 1966. Winnie was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed researching her family history. She loved reading mystery novels, crocheting, cats and chocolate chip cookies. Most important in her life was providing love, care and support to her family. Winnie is survived by her children, Maureen (Joseph) Greto, Jeanne Crawford, Nancy (Wallace) Wildenradt, Lawrence (Kathy) Pike and her grandchildren, Deborah Tuttle, Brian Greto, Cara Mack, Donna McGraw, Jason Greto, Amy Banta, Kelly Kervin, Kevin Crawford and Brittany Haas. Twenty great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and two nephews also survive her. Winnie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gilbert L. “Larry” Pike; brother, Bernard P. Gawley and son-in-law, Phillip Crawford. The Pike family wishes to express their gratitude to Assisting Hands Home Care, especially caregivers Jessie, Marie, Vania and Leonie. Also, special thanks to VITAS Hospice nurse, Carolyn and nursing assistants, Ashanti and Maureen. We could not have asked for a better team of loving professionals. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Indialantic, Florida. A burial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Florida.
