Obituary of Reine Marie Merlet

Reine Marie Merlet, 85, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, peacefully at the Silver Pines Assisted Living Facility, Palm Bay, FL. Born in Jeremie, Haiti, she moved to Florida in 1972 from New York. Reine was preceded in death by her husband, Anthime Merlet, who died in 1998 at the age of 83. Anthime and Reine and their first two children immigrated to the United States from their beloved homeland of Haiti in 1956. A homemaker and former social worker for Health and Rehabilitative Services in the State of Florida, Reine retired in 1992 after 11 years of service. Among other employments and entrepreneurial adventures with her husband, she also served for several years as an Educational Assistant in the public school systems of New York and Florida. Reine is survived by her son, Harry Merlet and his companion, Virginia Fleckner-Acosta, of Melbourne, FL; daughter, Josiane Merlet, of Miami, FL; son, Patrick Merlet and his wife, Lynn, of Orlando, FL; daughter, Regina Merlet, of Ocala, FL; stepson, Eddy Merlet and his wife, Janet, of Melbourne, FL; brother, Frantz Ducheine and his wife Marguerite, of Brockton, MA; sister, Magaly Ducheine, of Brockton, MA; 12 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Reine was a sweet, gentle and kind woman who loved to cook and tend to her flowers, vegetables, and fruits; she also loved to fish and enjoy the simple things in life. She liked to keep to herself but she had a quick smile, sharp wit, and a good sense of humor. All who knew her loved her; she will be missed but not forgotten.Services will be at 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2016, followed immediately by a reception.
