Obituary of Joel Henry Boman

Joel Henry Boman of Satellite Beach, Fl passed away on March 29, 2018.  He was predeceased by his father, Benjamin M. Boman, and is survived by his mother, Betty Boman of Satellite Beach,  daughter Michelle Szymczak, her husband Eric and their two children Jack and Samuel, son Derek Boman, his fiancée Ashley, and Derek’s children Kayla, Aaron and another grandchild on the way,  step-daughter Angela Romeo, siblings Matt Boman, Cynthia Temple, Susan Lafontaine (Steve), as well as his nieces & nephews Kristin & Brian Boman, Tim & Robin Temple, & grandnephew John “Tripp” Gay. Joe was born in Vero Beach, Fl on August 31, 1959, the youngest of the four children to Benjamin and Betty Boman.  The family settled in Satellite Beach in 1960, where Joe attended school through his graduation from Satellite High. He apprenticed and learned electrician skills from family friend Bill Biggert, & earned his Journeymen’s license.  He spent much of his professional career working on Ascension Island, and also enjoyed TDY assignments in the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean Islands. With his father Ben & brother Matt, he was also a volunteer with the Satellite Beach Fire Dept and obtained a firefighter certification. Joe enjoyed several different sports as a youth, but when the surfing bug bit, he was hooked for life, and Pet Den Beach was just a short walk from his home.  When the winter swells came in, Joe would come home with blue lips from surfing the frigid waters, so great was his passion. He was stoked to have gotten to surf some of his dream waves in Bali & Hawaii.  Joe’s passions also included fishing, scuba, snorkeling, kayaking, snowboarding, sprint car racing & attending other racing events. While on Ascension Island he regularly caught huge tuna from his kayak and enjoyed a multitude of other adventures there, a few of which can be seen on his YouTube site,  asckyk1. He loved good tunes & loved to sing along. He was also a wonderful father and adored by his children.  He made every moment with them special and they knew to their very core how much he loved them.  Fishing trips, card games, snorkeling, backyard softball, sky coasters, riding in race cars, longs days in the sun and sand – they were all part of the deal when Joe was your dad.  He shared with them all of his hobbies and passions, as well as his passion for living each day to its fullest. Joe was a good-hearted man who never met a stranger, was always eager to share a smile and a laugh, and was quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He was greatly loved and his departure has left a chasm in our hearts.  May he rest in peace. There will be a paddle out in his honor Saturday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Pet Den Beach, 1357-1363 Hwy A1A, Satellite Beach. Family reception at Joe’s mom to follow. In lieu of flowers Joe’s children, request that a donation is made in his name to a charity their father supported Huntington’s Disease Society of America; http://hdsa.org/
