Obituary of Kenneth J. Provoncha

Kenneth J. Provoncha, of Melbourne, FL, passed away on April 14, 2014. -á He was born on January 6, 1925 in Middlebury, VT to, and predeceased by Lois (Orvis) and Albia Provoncha.-á He was also predeceased by two older brothers, Maurice “Moose” & Harold. -á Kenneth served in the Navy during WWII as an Aviation Ordnanceman, and graduated from Middlebury College in 1951.-á He taught school in Massachusetts for 30 years, retiring in 1986 from Northampton High School.-á He also ran a summer camp for special needs children for several years.-á Moving to Melbourne, FL in 1986, he worked for the Florida Today and Orlando Sentinel newspapers covering high school and college sports.-á-áHe later worked as a substitute teacher at Melbourne & Palm Bay High Schools, and later as a substitute at Melbourne Central Catholic High School for ten years.-á -á Mr. Provoncha spent over two years in Saudi Arabia in the 1990’s.-á While he was there, he worked as an English tutor to two members of the Royal Saudi family. -á He was an avid sports fan, following everything from little league to professional-á sports. -á He is survived by three daughters, Pamela Lybarger, of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, Paula Carnes & husband Gary, of Altus, OK, Patti Provoncha of Palm Bay, Fl, and son Jim Provoncha & wife Janis of Palm Bay, FL, grandchildren Jason Provoncha, Eleanor Carnes, Reid Lybarger, Harrison Carnes, Justin Provoncha & Patrick Carnes, as well as several nieces & nephews. -á There will be a memorial service held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19 at Ammen Family Funeral Care, 1001 Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Provoncha prefers memorial donations be made to a scholarship fund in his name at Melbourne Central Catholic High School, 100 E. Florida Avenue, Melbourne, FL 32901.
