Obituary of Dorothy Mae Nesius

Dorothy Mae Nesius was born December 17, 1923 in Washington, D.C. She died peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 with her family at her side at Palm Bay Community Hospital in Palm Bay, Florida. She was 92 years old. At the time of her passing, Dot was a mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and loyal friend to many. After high school, she worked at the United States Treasury Department and Headquarters USMC in Washington, D.C. She met and married Frederick Nesius in Washington, D.C. In 1948, her loving husband of 67 years, who preceded her in death seven months ago. She was a devoted United States Marine Corps wife, faithfully serving with Fred and raising their three children during his postings at Headquarters USMC in Washington, D.C.; USMC Recruiting Station in Long Island, NY; Camp Lejeune, NC; Marine Barracks Pearl Harbor, HI; and Marine Corps Schools in Quantico, VA. Following their military years, they moved the family to Palm Bay, FL, where they resided since 1967. She was a lifelong fan of baseball and a 30 year season ticket holder during spring training games of the Los Angeles Dodgers in Vero Beach. Using her matriarchal charms, she excelled at getting autographs from MLB players and coaches. She enjoyed being an annual pass holder to Walt Disney World. Golf was also a passion, joining the Port Malabar Country Club and continuing to play with a close group of friends as they gracefully aged into their nineties. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, working in the gift shop after mass for over 25 years. Our family can never thank enough the CNAs, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, doctors, and caseworkers for their care. Especially her primary care physician, Julie Gelman, her cardiologist, James Zavitsanos, the health care providers at Palm Bay Community Hospital, and those at Life Care Center of Palm Bay. You’ve all touched our family’s hearts with your kindness. Survivors include her daughter Joan Nesius; son Douglas Nesius and his wife Shirley; son Steven Nesius and his wife Janet; sister-in-law Rosemary Methe; grandchildren Matthew Nesius and his wife Stephanie, Andrew Nesius, Mike Nesius, Sean Nesius, and Alec Nesius; and great grandson Zachary Nesius.There will be a public viewing at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1425 Miller Street NE, Palm Bay on February 17th from 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass and burial will follow on Thursday starting at 10:30 a.m.
