Obituary of Lawrence Herbert Kinney

Lawrence Herbert Kinney, 66, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in Melbourne, Florida. Larry was born on October 9, 1949 in Evansville Indiana to Agnes Laura Bean and William Vernon Kinney. He lived there until the age of 5 when his family moved to Orlando, Florida. He grew up in Orlando and attended Hillcrest Elementary, Howard Middle, and Maynard Evans High School. Larry actively served our country as a United States Marine in Vietnam from January 1968 to April 1970 and remained in the reserves until 1974. He had an extensive career in sales and was a K-9 trainer for the Orlando Police Department. Larry was an avid musician and started a band in the 1960+óGé¼Gäós called The Emanons where he was the lead keyboard player. He studied and loved the martial arts, including Jujitsu and Tae Kwan Do. He was a 2nd degree black belt. His last 10 years were spent in Rockledge, Florida, near the ocean, which he loved. Larry is survived by his children, Jessica Traslavina of Vero Beach and her husband Art, and Loren Rice of Beech Creek Kentucky and his wife Susie; five granddaughters; three sisters; ten nieces; and three nephews. He was truly loved and will be missed.The graveside service will be at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 North US Highway 1, Mims, Florida 32754. The service will be followed by a family lunch at a local seafood restaurant on the water, then down to the national seashore to have a celebration of life.
