Obituary of Paul D. Abrams

Paul D. Abrams, age 76, passed away Wednesday, August 8th at the Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center. Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou Abrams, he leaves two daughters, Liza Wynne and Rachel Abrams, a brother, Michael Abrams, as well as many dear friends. In life, Paul was most known for his generosity toward people and animals and his unwavering work ethic. He can be described as a gentleman farmer, an absent minded professor, a philosopher, and a reluctant world traveler. Born in Buffalo NY, he and Mary Lou eventually landed in Brookline, MA where he studied philosophy and they started a family. While his career path landed him in the computer industry, the life’s work he truly loved was taking care of his beloved wife and children. For him and his wife, this meant embarking on a journey into the foreign world of horsemanship for their daughters. Later, they retired to the warmer climate of Florida. Prompted by his wife, who had a passion for traveling, he explored the Grand Canyon, Paris, Prague, Costa Rica and other locations. He was happy just to be where she was. Throughout everything, he was an avid reader, with an special interest in medieval and renaissance history. His love of reading was also passed on to both his daughters. During his later years in life, when he was not with his family, he could be found tending his gardens, taking care of his much adored cats, reading, or sitting on his deck looking out over the lake in quiet reflection. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul can be sent to the Farm Sanctuary (www.farmsanctuary.com), the Ironwood Pig Sanctuary (www.ironwoodpigs.org) or Earthjustice (www.earthjustice.org).
