Obituary of Samuel “Pop” Lee Davis

Samuel “Pop” Lee Davis, age 99, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Sam was born to the late Lona Elizabeth Strickland and Hugh Craven Davis on February 22, 1919 in Tallahassee, Florida. He retired from Southern Bell after many years as a maintenance supervisor. Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering on cars. He started the Florida Airboat Association. He loved spending time with his family, sitting around telling old stories, and RVing across the country with his beloved Margaret by his side. He loved his many dogs ranging from dachshunds to dobermans. He was predeceased by his mother Lona Elizabeth Strickland and father Hugh Craven Davis; brothers Gillun Davis, William Tucker and Clyde Tucker; sisters Florence Davis, Francis Bernice Medlin, and Vivian Tucker. The Patriarch of the Davis family, Sam is survived by his wife of 78 years Margaret Hope Davis; his son Larry Davis (Anne); grandchildren Gailanne Upton (Mike), Larry Davis Jr. (Nancy), Dean Davis (Lynn) and Dawn Davis; 9 Great Grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was loved by many will be greatly missed. Sam served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He will be laid to rest with military honors at 1:30pm on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 Highway US 1, Mims, Florida.
