Obituary of John Wescott Rourk Jr.

John Wescott Rourk Jr. Passed away from congestive heart failure on March 2, 2023, in Melbourne, Fl at age 88.

John was born in Atlanta, Ga, on March 10, 1934, and moved to Orlando, Fl in 1946. He attended St. James Catholic School where he met his future wife of 64 years, Rosemary (Vevera). He attended Georgia Institute of Technology, where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and later became treasurer. He earned a Bachelor of Industrial Management degree and entered the Marines after graduation. He was honorably discharged when his father died in 1956 and went home to run the family business Timber Products. John was the president and CEO of Timber Products for 35 years, and then he was a manufacturer’s representative for building products until he retired in 2016.

He is survived by his five children, Cindi (Philip), Chris (Therese), Michael (Cheri), Patrick, Jennifer (Carter), 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Denny Conboy and Catherine Buie, and many nieces and nephews.

John was so proud of being a great-grandfather and a grandfather. He loved Rosemary deeply, and her passing in August of 2022 broke his heart. He had a (horribly) dry sense of humor, was an avid coupon collector, and was known for his eclectic pairs of socks.

John was a lifetime Rotary International member and a Paul Harris fellow. He was also a Knights of Columbus member at Holy Name and served in Perpetual Adoration.

A celebration of his life will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 3050 North Hwy A1A, Indialantic, Fl at 11 am on March 31, 2023. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Saint Vincent dePaul society at Holy Name, or to Rotary International (www.rotary.org)
