Obituary of Dr. Forrest Z. Miles

On January 10, 2023, Dr. Forrest Z. Miles passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family. He had been battling Mesothelioma for 11 months.

Forrest was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. His family moved to Washington, DC when he was 9 years old. He was a runner, sprinter, and 1948 City Champion. Forrest received a track scholarship to Georgetown University and after 1 year transferred to The Ohio State University for undergraduate and received his doctorate from the College of Optometry.

Forrest was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a Jewish War Veteran. After his service in the Air Force, he practiced Optometry in the private sector, opening a practice with his son, Barry who was the optician. Father and son worked together at Eye Design in Clinton, MD for over two decades.

Forrest and Carol retired to Florida. Forrest was very active serving as President of the Suntree Masters Homeowners Association for many years and later offering his expertise and experience to the Resident Council at Sonata East. He was a longtime member of Temple Israel of Brevard.

Forrest will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Even though he was small in stature, he was mighty in spirit and loved deeply. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 ½ years Carolyn, children: Alan Miles, Jacqueline Miles, Heidi Miles Tryon (Michael), Deena Miles (Kevin McHugh), and recently pre-deceased by son Barry Miles. Forrest had 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who gave him tremendous joy.

A memorial service will be held at Temple Israel of Brevard on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
