Obituary of Marleen L. Martin (Woodbury)

Marleen L. Martin (Woodbury), 89, passed peacefully on Monday, September 13th at Advent Hospital, New Smyrna Beach, FL. Born in Watertown, MA on April 23rd, 1932, Marleen was the daughter of the late John and Winifred Woodbury. She was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd M. Martin, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.

Marleen moved with Lloyd and their children to West Melbourne from Bedford, MA in 1960 where they raised their children and many foster children. In the 1960s and 1970s, Marleen worked as a waitress and hostess at the Melbourne Beach Steak House and the Old English Pub.

She was a Past High Priestess of Hadji Court #88, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America (LOSNA), and a member of the Shilah Temple #151 Daughters of the Nile. She will be sorely missed by all.

Marleen is the beloved mother of her son Dana (Verna) of Winter Park, daughter Robin Checkwicz (Edward) of Port Orange, son Michael Dowdy (Dee) of Palm Bay, son Brad (Peter) of Boston, MA, and daughter-in-law Lynda of Neptune Beach. She is also survived by her loving brother Ted Woodbury of Melbourne. Marleen was the devoted grandmother to Joshua, Matthew, Christopher, Marcus, Daniel, Miranda, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son Alan and her three sisters, Nancy Bristol, Stephanie Starke, and Joanie Woodbury.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 30th from 4 pm to 6:30 pm with a funeral service at 6:30 pm at the Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 South Hickory Street, Melbourne. Interment will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, October 1st at 12:30 pm where she will be laid to rest with her husband Lloyd.
