Cecile Batura

Obituary of Cecile M. Batura

Cecile M. Batura, 94, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021.  Cecile was born in Timmins, Ontario, Canada to Jean Baptiste Menard and Ruby Pednault Menard. Cecile is one of 13 children (survived by 7), and spent most of her childhood caring for her younger siblings. When Cecile was 18 she moved to the United States (Michigan) where she began her employment with the Petzold family. Speaking no English at the time, it was here that she honed her skills as a domestic engineer, as she liked to be called; caring for their children, cooking, cleaning, and developing a very close relationship with Margie Petzold. She spent 45 years caring for their home, helping to raise their children, and was by Margie’s side when she went to be with the lord. The bond she developed with the Petzolds was more like family that lasted a lifetime.

In Michigan, Cecile met and married Philip Batura in 1959 at the French Club, where she and her sisters & brothers loved to socialize. After moving around for Phil’s career, the Batura family settled in Indian Harbor Beach, FL where they raised their daughter, Michelle Batura Brown. Cecile was an active member of Holy Name of Jesus Church where she developed lifelong friendships. Cecile was a fantastic hostess and loved to cook & bake, she was known as the cookie lady, and you could be sure she was going to arrive at any function with a scrumptious desert! After retiring from the Petzold’s employment, Cecile spent most of her free time volunteering at Holy Name of Jesus church, and traveling with friends. She took many trips abroad, loved cruising, and going back to Michigan to visit with the Petzold children, and her family.

Cecile was a loving mother to Michelle (Michael,) grandmother to Zachary (Jaclyn) and Chad, and great grandmother to Colton, Hayden and Parker. Cecile devoted her life to taking care of others, and truly left an impact on everyone who met her. Known for her quick wit and sense of humor, she made everyone feel at home in her presence. She has left a hole in the hearts of everyone who loved her.
