Pia Mullins

Obituary of Pia Elisabeth Mullins

On Saturday, May 15 2021, Pia Mullins, loving wife, mother/stepmother of five children, extended mother and beloved friend to many, passed away at the age of 68.

Pia was born on March 20 1953 in Köping Sweden to Per Vakkuri and Vivian Sandberg. She attended Gothenburg School of Economics in Sweden, and worked for many years for a large international corporation before starting her own consulting business. On August 13, 2005, she married Terrence (Terry) Mullins. In 2014, Pia became a US citizen. She remained proud of and loyal towards her native country Sweden and her adopted country the United States throughout her life.

Pia loved to travel. After retiring, along with her husband Terry, they traveled the world as much as they could for more than 5 years. She spoke eight languages and loved conversing with native speakers in her travels. Wherever she traveled, she always came away with new friends. Because she felt her language skills were a gift from God, she gave back by giving her time to teach English to others. Pia was a very kind, considerate, and compassionate soul. She loved helping others less fortunate and in her last few months was cooking for more than 60 homeless every week.

Pia was preceded in death by her father Per Vakkuri, mother Vivian Sandberg, stepson Craig Mullins, son-in-law Robert Rogers, father-in-law Charles Mullins, and mother-in-law Dorthy Mullins.

Pia is survived by her husband Terry; daughter Stavroula Wallström, her children’s father Peter Wallström, and their daughters, Sophie and Sara; stepdaughter Bethany Mullins, and her husband Nick Letendre and children Brian and Ella; stepdaughter Colleen Mullins and fiancé William Verbeke; stepson Craig’s widow Juli Gallegos, and his children Austin, Brandon, and Madison; and stepdaughter Jacque Mullins, and her children Kristen Rogers and Logan Rogers; and numerous extended family members in Sweden. Terry and Pia married later in life and had no children together, but combined they had nine grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

A small service will be held on Tuesday May 25th. Her final wish was to be buried in her native country Sweden.

In lieu of flowers please join me helping to find a cure by making a generous donation in Pia’s name to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Pancreatic cancer is a devious and painful cancer, and there is research on going that desperately needs funding.
