Obituary of Dolores Catherine Groover

Dolores Catherine Kenney Groover, 85, of Palm Bay, Fl. Passed away with family by her side on March 5, 2021.

Dee was born in Suitland, MD to the late Seabrook E. Kenney and Jessie C. Smith Kenney. She was the oldest of four, Edward S. Kenney (deceased), Joseph M Kenney (deceased), and Marjorie C. Kenney Kirkpatrick.

Dee grew up in Suitland and attended Mt. Calvary Catholic Church; this is where she met the love of her life. She was introduced by Father Bloom to William L. Groover (Larry) at a teen club dance 67 years ago. They were married and celebrated 65 years last June.

She worked for National Geographic, FCC and the Census Bureau before settling down and taking on her most fulfilling job as mother to Deborah Groover Drechsler and Joseph M. Groover.

Dee loved her house in Clinton and all of her lifetime friends from the Crestview neighborhood where she and Larry resided for 51 years. In 2015, they relocated to their sunny Florida home permanently. She enjoyed the warmer weather and on her “good days”, she and Larry would take road trips and hit a yard sale or two. She also enjoyed luncheons with her Red Hat Ladies.

As her family grew she welcomed every grandchild with open arms, Angela Groover, Michael Drechsler, his wife Alicia, Nicole Groover, and Eric Drechsler. She was the great grandmother to Aaron Groover, Giavanna Shinn and Mark Stringer, Jr.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She would come to Baltimore and stay for days or whisk them away to her Ocean City home for a long weekend. She loved shopping on the boardwalk as much as they did! She called these get aways “their field trips”.

Whether she was on the beach in Assateague, at a cheerleading game, a baseball field in who knows what state, Disney World, having tea parties, painting rocks, or just swinging on the porch swing one things for sure she treasured each moment with every one of her grand babies. And then came Facebook, she reconnected with so many friends, extended family and made new friends. She LOVED her iPad.

As many of you know, Dee had medical issues thru out her life, even beating breast cancer at the age of 81. She wasn’t a quitter that’s for sure. Her faith got her thru many trying times.

She is at peace, pain free and rejoicing with loved ones. She was faithful, kind, caring, giving, loving, supportive and the keeper of secrets and will be missed by many.

Due to COVID there will not be a public service in Florida, a memorial service will be held in Maryland, date to follow.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her name to Hospice of St. Francis, she received remarkable care at this facility. Hospice of St. Francis, 1240 Grumman Place, Titusville, FL, 32780.
