Obituary of Petra Vazquez
On December 31, 2020, Petra Vazquez passed away at the age of 93 years old.
Grandma brought the light of Jesus our Savior to everyone she met. The life she lived raising and nurturing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren spoke louder than words. Because of her strength and gentle ways, we always knew that she thought the best of all of us. Hearing her voice or having her presence often provided just the right comfort when you needed it.
Petra was born in Patillas, PR. She had one son Pedro, with her first husband Pedro Garcia. She then remarried and had 9 children with Richard Vazquez. Carmen, Nydia, Iris, Ricardo, Aurelio, Carlos, Damaris, Abraham and Vannessa. She came to New York in 1960 and dedicated her life to the Lord and raising her children.
Grandma was a long-time church member and Treasurer of Embajadores De Cristo located in Brooklyn, New York. It was here that most of us have our fondest memories with Grandma and the church people that became family to us. Later, she had the opportunity to travel and visit her children wherever they may have been. She visited San Antonio, TX to see Vannessa. She visited Puerto Rico to see Pedro and Damaris. And she visited Junior (Ricardo) in Palm Bay, FL numerous times before settling there in 1997. Once, she decided to stay in Palm Bay she then joined her brothers and sisters in Christ and became a member of the church, Iglesia De Dios.
Mami/Abuela/Grandma loved us all and was the Rock of our family, she taught us faith and perseverance. Looking forward to seeing her again when God’s trumpet sounds and we join her for eternity.
Petra was predeceased by five of her children Aurelio, Carlos, Iris, Pedro, Abraham and one grandson Frankie Jr. She is survived by five children Carmen, Nydia, Ricardo, Damaris and Vannessa, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
