Obituary of George Lewis Morrisey

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor and author George Lewis Morrisey, of Merritt Island, Florida, passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday, October 28th, 2020. George was born on December 6th, 1926 to the late George and Elizabeth Morrisey in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from high school, he went on to serve in the United State Army, where he achieved the rank of Corporal and received the Army of Occupation, World War II Victory, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medals for his service.

Once his tour of duty was completed, he married his wife of 72 years, Carol Beverly Putnam, from East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, on August 21, 1948. They stayed in Springfield, Massachusetts, where George attended college and they began to raise their family. George’s enterprising spirit and powerful, encouraging presence gained him one opportunity after another to develop his experience with business administration into an internationally renowned speaking, mentorship, and training portfolio.

Author of 19 books on planning and management, George’s eloquence and insight translated perfectly from page to stage. In 1984, George was inducted into the Council of Peers Award for Excellence Speaker Hall of Fame and he won the National Speakers Association Cavett Award in 1994.

He was an active, longtime member of his community church groups, and attended Grace United Methodist Church in Merritt Island for over 30 years. There, his speaking voice lent itself to singing with the church choir and with their quartet known as The Gracemen.

He is preceded in death by his sister Ann, his two daughters, Leah and Lynn, and his granddaughter Mary. He is survived by his wife Carol, his son Steven, his two granddaughters Lisa and Rose-Ann, many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter, his nephew, his niece (her children and grandchidren).

A private celebration of George’s life for family and close friends will be held on Thursday, November 19th, at 2pm at Grace United Methodist Church. Contact the church at 321-452-2420 to inquire about virtual accommodations for the service.
