Obituary of Helen D. Counts

Helen Dorothy Counts, age 64, lost her 6-year battle with cancer on February 12, 2015. She is survived by her husband, John, her four children and their spouses, Jeff (Hillary), Chris, Lisa (Kevin), Barbara (Kyle), five grandchildren, Evan, Megan, Allie, Evie and Ethan, four of her five siblings Philip, Jeannine, Paul and Katherine and many loving nieces and nephews. Helen was born in Leominster, Massachusetts on December 16, 1950 but her family relocated to Florida in 1956. Helen took to the Brevard County beach life right away and even learned to surf. As a young girl, she also enjoyed cheerleading, riding her bike and playing with neighborhood friends. She was a proud Melbourne High Bulldog and later attended Brevard Community College for her certification in Criminal Justice. HelenGÇÖs travels carried her all over the United States and she even lived in Turkey for almost two years, having moved there with her newborn son in 1970. After several years in California, Helen finally returned to Melbourne in 1979 (again with an infant!) and met the great love of her life, John. The two married the following July and the Counts family eventually settled in Eau Gallie. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed a lifelong passion for books and crossword puzzles. She spent years as an official EGHS Band Mom and was part of several local clogging groups. Above all else, Helen took immense pleasure in cooking and baking for others and having them enjoy her food. When her children needed cooking advice, she was the first person they called. HelenGÇÖs family loved playing Scrabble and cards with her and her GÇ£grandbabiesGÇ¥ were the joy of her life. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 4pm to 6pm at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 Hickory Street, Melbourne, 32901.In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations go towards a metastatic breast cancer forum that helped Helen get the support she needed to fight her battle for six years.
