Obituary of Gary James Sakowski

Gary James Sakowski, 80, of Melbourne, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at home from a lengthy battle with Lewy’s Body Disease (Parkinson’s). Gary was born to the late John J. and Mary Sakowski in Detroit, MI on December 17, 1933. He was a decorated Army veteran of the Korean War, and recipient of two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. An avid fisherman, talented woodworker and carpenter, he held a very special place in his heart for all of God’s creatures. He was known to rescue any animal in need no matter large or small. His wit, companionship will be greatly missed by numerous family and friends. Gary is survived by his beloved wife Claudette who cared for him selflessly throughout his lengthy battle. His family includes his children Debbie (Dwayne) Trahan and Gary (Sara) Sakowski, Jr, of Melbourne, FL; Kathy (Cathy Consla) Bell of Annville, PA; and Barbara (Jacob) Personnius of Augusta, GA; his sister Rosemary Stagg of Titusville, FL; five grandchildren Mary Alice Lanier, Shawn Potter, Buddy Potter, Jeanette Sakowski, Tara Bronson and Allison Calhoun; as well as five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by two sons Timothy John and Charles William Sakowski. Arrangements entrusted to Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, Melbourne, FL (321) 724-2222. A memorial service will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, Gary’s wishes are for donations to be made to the Brevard County South Animal Care Center, 5100 W. Eau Gallie Blvd., Melbourne, FL 32935.
