Obituary of Maria “Chunkie” Moad

Maria Moad passed into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Socorro, New Mexico on Aug. 25, 1930 to Lola and Isidro Lopez. Chunkie later moved to Albuquerque where she met her husband, Phil Moad, who was in the USAF. They were stationed in New Mexico, Florida, Texas, Germany, Maine and finally retired from Patrick AFB and settled in Melbourne. She is survived by three sisters; Mary Trujillo, Angie Reynolds, and Precilla Whiting, all living in New Mexico. Her five daughters; Jo Ann Baylon (Angelo), Dolores Gonzalez (Jose), Patricia Deitz (Mark, Phyllis Thomsen (Brad) and Barbara Schulz (Kevin). Also her 12 loving grandchildren, Mark Baylon (Leah), Heidi Dominguez (Donny), Alex Hernandez, Joey Hernandez (Rachel), Philip Maya, Joe Maya, Karen Santiago (Carlos), Sheila Kleinschnitz (Ted), Danny Thomsen, Tara Fay (Sean), Dana Dodson (Lance) and Steven Schulz and ten beautiful great-grandchildren who gave her so much joy. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, Mark Philip Moad, and her infant daughter, Marguerite Esther, her sisters, Josie Baca, Emma Lopez, and Peggy Garcia and her special brother-in-law, Felix Trujillo. Her deep and abiding faith was a testimony to all who knew her. She was and will be remembered as a great wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend. She will be missed every minute, of every hour, of every day. She was an active member of Ascension Catholic Church since 1968. We are grateful for the blessings of Father Doug Bailey (FIT), Father Eamon Tobin, Sister Immaculata, and Deacon Sergio and choir leader Ashley Breaux. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 South Hickory Street, Melbourne. The Rosary will be said at 6:30 PM and a wake service will be held at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 North Harbor City Boulevard, Melbourne, on Monday, February 3 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay.In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of Health First or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
