Obituary of Kirk Allen Meier

Kirk Meier, age 59, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, May 31st after an extended illness. Kirk leaves behind his wife, Kristine Meier, after a 23 year storybook marriage; two sons Jason Meier and Matthew Critten; his daughter-in-law Terri Critten and his 4 grandchildren Landon and Riley Koontz; and Alexcis and Kaleb Critten. He was born in Davenport, Iowa and was the son of Harry Herman Meier and Virginia Ann Sass. His father preceded him in death in 2003. Kirk had two brothers, Jimmy E. Meier and Michael H. Meier and one sister, Susan A. Richard. Kirk also had many nieces and nephews. He also left behind his best friend……his dog, Buddy. Kirk Meier was a great man who had influence over many people. He was a quiet man that didn’t always have a lot of words, but made up for this in his kind, loving and generous behavior. Kirk went out of his way to be kind to others and often thanked people just to brighten their day. He was a brave and strong man that was able to battle his illness and everyday life with his head held high despite the inner pain of knowing his life journey would be shortened. Kirk taught others just by watching him. Most of all, Kirk loved his family. He will be deeply missed and his loss will be felt in the hearts of all who knew him. He never ceased to smile and he always tried to cheer everyone up all the way to the end. Kirk was a member of Advent Lutheran Church. He served in the Navy on the USS Independence from 1975-1979. Kirk was also known as “Captain Kirk” as he spent about 5 years as the pilot of a riverboat in the Quad Cities. Kirk spent the majority of his career in building and property management prior to his illness. He enjoyed wood working, golf and spending time with his family. Kirk will be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at 2:00pm, Saturday, July 8th at Advent Lutheran Church, 7550 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32940. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in his name to Advent Lutheran Church
