Obituary of James Neal Gasaway

James Neal Gasaway, born in Decatur, IL on 7 September 1931, passed away on 1 May 2018 at the Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice facility in Rockledge at the age of 86. James was twice retired; first, as an Air Force Chief Master Sergeant and second, as a DoD Civilian at Patrick AFB. During his 46 plus year career, James was a Communications and Cryptography Specialist, as well as an Education Counselor. During his time in the military, James served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. In addition, James was a graduate of the University of Maryland and the University of Southern California. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester Abner Gasaway and Genevieve Ellen Shutter, his wife of 62 years, Sachiko Matsumoto Gasaway, and a son, Rex Allen Gasaway. He is survived by daughters Diana Lynn Price of Port Arena, CA, Sherry Lynn Gasaway of Rockledge, FL, sons Nathan Bennett Gasaway of Canoga Park, CA and Vincent Eugene Gasaway of Stafford, VA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. James’ remains will be interred alongside those of his late wife, at the National Cemetery in Cape Canaveral at a date yet to be determined.
