Obituary of Doff Daniel Griffith

Doff Daniel Griffith, 88, of W. Melbourne, FL, passed away Sunday evening-á January 26, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer. Doff was married 65 years to the love of his life, Irene Griffith, who-ásurvives along with their daughter, Brenda (Mark) Cavanaugh of Akron, OH, son-áDavid Griffith (FIT ’81) of Fort Lauderdale, two grandchildren, Brett-áCavanaugh of Pittsburgh, PA (wife Jennifer and great grandchildren, Sammy,-áBen, Isaac), and Keri Cavanaugh of Cleveland, OH.-á Doff was preceded in-á death by his parents, Clara Susan and Henry Cleveland Griffith (1967),-á sister JoAnn (Robert) Hood; and four brothers, Marlin (Margie), Jimmy,-á Ardel (Nadine and Izzy), and Charlie (Betty) Griffith. Doff was a-á veteran of the US Navy, and graduated as a Physical Therapist from the-áMedical College of Richmond, VA in 1952, settling in the Akron, OH, area-áwhere he practiced for over 30 years.-á Doff was ahead of his time, and as-áfar back as the early 1970’s stressed and taught ergonomics, and made-árecommendations of the benefits of opening wellness facilities, for-áemployees and patients, that are now common place. Doff and Irene moved-áto Florida in 1984, and after passing the FL PT Medical board, worked at-áHolmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, FL until he retired in 1992.-á Doff-áwas a 32nd Degree Mason, a lifetime member of the Azan Shriner’s, and was-áa former Esquire in the Melbourne Elks Lodge.-á Doff and Irene enjoyed most-áweekends over the past 30 years at the Lodge with their many beloved-á friends dancing the night away. Doff was a skilled and avid golfer,enjoyed traveling, Irene’s cooking, and most of all being with his family,-ágrandchildren, and visits with their great grandchildren.-á Doff had a-áquick wit, and we look forward to hearing his jokes again one day. The family will greet friends at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, Melbourne, from 2pm to-á4pm on Thursday, January 30, 2014, immediately followed by a memorial service, officiated by Rev.
