Obituary of Herbert J. “Jim” Stwalley

H. GÇ£JimGÇ¥ Stwalley, 96, of Melbourne Beach and formerly of Terre Haute, IN died Sunday, August 17, 2014. His wife Margaret Slagle Stwalley, whom he married June 30, 1946, died July 22, 2004. He was born August 20, 1917 in Clay County, IN to Herbert L. Stwalley and Matilda Barley Stwalley. He had lived in Brevard County since 1974. He was a 1936 graduate of Hymera High School, and Bryant & Stratton Business College, Louisville, KY. He was a procurement officer for the Army Terre Haute Ordnance Depot, and officer in charge of the Air Force Industrial Machine Tool Storage Depot on N. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN. He retired from Defense Contract Management District, Indianapolis in 1974 as Deputy. He was involved in Florida real estate sales for 20 years with The Steele Company. He served with the 88th Infantry Division during WWII in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, and Air Force 1897 Engineer Aviation Battallion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and French Croix De Guerre. He is survived by his sister, Jean McCulley; niece, Kristen Bush; nephew, Brent Miller; and niece, Teresa Bacci. His wife Margaret Stwalley and his niece, Sharon Miller preceded him in death. His life memberships include Hymera Lodge #588 F&AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute, Hymera American Legion, VFW 7119, Fort Benjamin Harrison, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Life Charter Member WWII Memorial. He was a member of Zorah Shrine in Terre Haute and a founding member of Azan Shrine in Melbourne, a member of Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club, and 88th Infantry Division Association.
