Obituary of Macrina Fox

Macrina Fox, 80, passed away peacefully Christmas night, 2018, in Melbourne FL. Macrina was the first of five children born to Philip and Jane Carmody of Painesville, OH. She was raised in Painesville and attended Harvey High School where she graduated with honors in 1956. She attended Notre Dame College in Cleveland, Ohio, and after graduating spent a brief time in medical school before marrying Dr. Raymond (Ray) Fox, also of Painesville. Macrina and Ray had five sons during his tenure in the U.S. Air Force. Macrina and family settled in Jacksonville, N.C. in 1973 where she had been a resident until very recently moving to Melbourne, FL. Macrina was a beloved mother, proud ‘noni’ of eight grandchildren, and committed friend. Her passion was family. Her hobbies included baking, tennis, playing piano, and gardening. She loved to play scrabble and host friends and family at her home. Macrina had a generous soul and gave to many causes and charities throughout her life. In addition to raising her children she worked as a teacher and in social services for Onslow County. Macrina is preceded in death by her father Philip Carmody, mother Jane Carmody (Chircosta), brother Mike, sister Maureen Carmody, and sons Philip and Peter Fox. She is survived by her son, Paul Fox, his three children Ryan, Hannah, and Andrew, son, James Fox (Jim), his wife, Tina Fox (Goodman), and their children Brendan, Colin and Alyssa, son, Patrick Fox, his wife Mia Watanabe, and their children Landon and Kira, sister, Mary Carmody, brother, Patrick Carmody, her companion, Donald Perry, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. A viewing will be held at Jones Funeral home, 303 Chaney Avenue, Jacksonville, NC from 5 to 7pm, Wednesday, January 2nd Funeral services will be at Infant of Prague Catholic church 119 Wilmington Highway, Jacksonville, NC at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 3rd. Macrina will be laid to rest at Onslow Memorial Cemetery following the mass. In lieu of flowers we encourage a donation to the BrightFocus Foundation in support of Alzheimer Disease Research.
