Obituary of Catherine Gachet Looby

Catherine Gachet Looby, 32, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015. She was born at Cape Canaveral Hospital on June 06, 1982 and was the younger daughter of Thomas M. and Patricia A. Gachet. She grew up in Brevard County and adored the Melbourne area. CatherineGÇÖs zest for life was contagious. She genuinely enjoyed people and her smile, friendliness, energy and positive outlook attracted adults and children alike. One of her favorite pastimes was physical fitness and she spent many hours at the gym. Her enthusiasm for spinning resulted in her becoming a Keiser certified cycling instructor and she taught classes on a substitute basis in her spare time. Catherine will be remembered for her artistic talent that was captured in the unique cards and picture frames she gave to family and friends. She loved her family dearly and always put the needs of her family and friends above her own; one of her favorite sayings was GÇ£family first.GÇ¥ To know her was to know sunshine and happiness and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Catherine earned her bachelorGÇÖs degree in 2007 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville attending as a Bright Futures Scholar enrolled in the Honors Program. As an undergraduate student, she was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, National Scholars Honor Society and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. She was a beloved Resident Assistant for the universityGÇÖs honors dorm for two years and earned numerous awards in that capacity. Along the way, she met her future husband, John Looby, who was in the Navy and stationed in the Jacksonville area. Upon graduation, Catherine and John married and she joined RS&H, an engineering and architectural firm in Jacksonville. While working full-time, Catherine completed an MBA degree, graduating in March 2012. Catherine is survived by her loving parents, Tom and Pat Gachet, sister Carolyn, husband John and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service honoring CatherineGÇÖs life will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 50 West Strawbridge Ave, Melbourne, FL on Sunday, April 19th at 2:00 pm.
