Obituary of Virginia I. Santos

Virginia I. Santos, 82, of Palm Bay, FL left the presence of her family and went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2013. Virginia was born on January 18, 1931 in Mattapoisett, MA to Stephen and Lottie Vaughan. She was ahead of her time, working in a GÇ£man’s worldGÇ¥ as a quality control inspector and was one of the first female shop stewards for the U.A.W. If someone told her GÇ£you can’t do thatGÇ¥, she showed them she could and did it well. Virginia’s interests were diverse and she had a deep passion for life. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed performing (acting, singing, and playing banjo), loved traveling and spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed watching Red Sox and Patriots games. She will be forever missed by her daughters, Virginia Joerres and Diane N. Poirier; her son-in-law, Floyd Johnston of Palm Bay, FL; her sisters, Norma Tripp of Westport, MA and Lottie Joseph of Marion, MA; her brother Wesley Vaughan of Fairhaven, MA; her brother-in-law, Maurice Stebenne of Maine; her sister-in-law, Elner Vaughan of Florida; many nieces and nephews and her Grand-Dog, Fenway. Virginia was preceded in death be her loving husband of 56 years, Eugsidro GÇ£ZekeGÇ¥ Santos in 2004, who she met while playing the French Horn for the Salvation Army Band. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Elaine Romberg, Constance Benge and Betty Stebenne; her brother, Steven Vaughan; her son-in-law, Paul Joerres; and her pets, Callie the cat, and dogs, Casper, Brandi, Tinkerbelle and Jacques. She will be severely missed and always remembered by a multitude of friends and family members whose lives she touched with her radiant smile.A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 20th at 11 AM at First Christian Church of Melbourne, 2010 South Babcock ST., Melbourne, Fl.In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Virginia’s name to a Humane Society of your choice. Virginia never met a bird, cat or dog that she didn’t love.
