Roberto Medina, 85, longtime Palm Bay business owner, proud father, grandfather and great grandfather, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at OPIS Indian River Center.
Roberto was born June 6, 1934 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and was raised in an orphanage. He learned the skill of barbering at the Insular School for Boys in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and migrated to New York City in the 1950’s where he opened his first business and met his wife of 59 years Josephine Medina.
Roberto and Josephine moved to Palm Bay in 1987 and together they established Roberto’s Barbershop, one of the first Latino Barbers in our community. Roberto’s Barbershop later moved to the Metro West Shopping Center in West Melbourne. Many of his clients loved his style and flare of haircuts, and several barbers that worked with him later went on to become business owners themselves. Roberto & Josephine worshipped at EL Faro Church in Melbourne.
A loving and devoted Father, he is survived by his wife Josephine Medina, his two sons J. Robert (Rob) Medina, wife Lissette Medina, Edgar R. Medina and wife Elizabeth Medina, grandchildren, Robert L. Medina, Alexandria Medina, Breanna Casanova, Melissa Medina, Alison Medina, Edgar A. Medina, Samantha Medina, and step grandchildren DaJuan Archie, Teara Mia Esposito, Greatgrandchildren Giovannia R. Medina, Alianna Addisyn Medina, Elijah Lee Medina, Kingsley Cassiel Medina, Ileana Arbelo, Kyler Vazquez, Avery Vazquez, Addisyn Tucker, Lane Tucker, Kiernan Medina and step great grandchildren Aubrey Hayden Sanborn, Elias Guerrier, Jesiah McAlister, Zamir Kipp and countless other children and young adults he mentored.
A Memorial Service will be conducted later this year once we have overcome our current circumstances regarding COVID-19.

My condolences to the family.
Roberto was and inspiration to my life being one of the fist barbers here in Palm Bay, It was such an honor to even be able to cut his hair a few times and to remember what he said to me every time he sat in my chair
-“ I know He know what He’s doing because i can feel it in His hands”-
we are going to miss him very much.

Our hearts go out to Rob, Lissette, Edgar, Elizabeth and the rest of the family. Knowing he knew his Savior makes all the difference in the world. He’s celebrating with Jesus as you get used to his being gone. Praise God for his life, example and love. We pray the family will be able to celebrate his “home-going” but still have to face being left behind. God bless the entire Median family. Heal quickly, knowing where he is.

I’m so sorry for the lost of your father. He was a great man. He was a Legend and a mentor for me and lots of barbers. He was the one who opened the doors for the Hispanic community. He was the one that inspired lots of us that it doesn’t matter if you are Hispanic or African American you can be a successful barber and make it big for your family. He was the one that gave me my first barber books and barber scissors. He taught me how to be the professional barber that I am today. Don Roberto will always be one of The pioneers of our community. And his legacy will continue for ever. I will always tell my kids and grandkids that Don Roberto taught me how to be the barber that I am today. God bless you and your family brother.
