Larry McElwain Ramsay went to Heaven to be with God, his departed family and friends on October 5, 2018.
He was born in York, PA. on May 25, 1935. He was the youngest of 4 children. His parents were Willard and Ella Ramsay. His sisters were Mary Lou Wolf and Miriam Diffenderfer. He has six grandchildren-Jimbo, Callum, Lindsay, Jay, Greg and Travis. He also has his faithful Yorkipoo, Mimi. He was very grateful for his nurse-aide, Lee Ann Benton who was faithfully at his side for 6 months.
When Larry was 5, his family moved to the New Cumberland, PA. area. He graduated from Carson Long Military Academy and then entered the United States Army. He spent 3 years on active duty at Camp Tuto and the Greenland Ice Cap outpost as a Medic.
After the Army, he entered Syracuse University where he met his wife of 58 yrs., Margherita Lindsay.
After graduating from Syracuse, he worked in marketing for Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Company. He then entered the long-term care field where he and Margherita became health care administrators and they owned health-care facilities in Owego, Cortland, and Ithaca, New York. He and Margherita had many businesses-medical and surgical dealerships, a Swim and tennis club, furniture store and a commercial property and rental business outside of Harrisburg, PA.
He and his wife lived part time in Florida at first. They owned property in St. Pete Beach, St. Augustine Beach, Cocoa Beach, Indian Harbour Beach, Indialantic and finally in Cocoa Village in 2005. They traveled extensively abroad and in the United States and enjoyed another home in Scottsdale, AZ.
Larry always had to be involved and became active in condo boards for many years. As a member of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club for 19 years, he and Margherita loved tennis and boating. He was also a SAR (Sons of the American Revolution), member of the American Legion, and the Patrick Officer’s (then Tides) Club plus several other organizations.
