Elwood “Woody” Gowdy, age 80, of Melbourne Beach, FL, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

Woody was a Lifetime member of the Sea Turtle Preservation Society and spent many years in active service to the turtles doing permitted walks, scouting and nesting surveys. He was a two time lung cancer survivor and rejoiced in the extra 14 years he was given.

He served in the Navy and upon a honorable discharge he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering Tech.

Woody was always cheerful and positive, loved art, tinkering in the garage, thrift stores and sea turtles.

Woody was a wonderful husband, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 30 years Gail; siblings, Spenser Gowdy and Margaret Peppel; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be at 3:30 pm on Sunday, November 18 at the beach access for Wexford Condos, across from the North end of the Publix Driftwood Shopping Center on A1A in South Melbourne Beach. (park in the north end of the Publix shopping center near the street)

The family request you dress in casual bright colored clothes and bring a cut flower from your yard to add to a wreath that will be paddled out.

A gathering of Woody’s family and friends will follow at the Wexford Condo Clubhouse.

Memorial donations maybe made to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society

It is clear to see that Mr. Gowdy will be truly missed by surviving relatives and friends, and for that I’m truly sorry! The terrible sense of loss that death often leaves behind can seem unbearable at times. At times like these, think of what it will mean to see a time when death is no more; never will will have to go to a cemetery to mourn the loss of a loved oned. Such a time will be a reality, for it is a promise from our Heavenly Father, who cannot lie. But until then, continue to pray to God for comfort needed to endure these difficult times.
